Shipment of Kobelco crawler crane CKE 1350 from Breda to Ghana

Last week, Portside International shipped a Kobelco crawler crane CKE 1350 from Breda, The Netherlands via Antwerp, Belgium to Takoradi, Ghana. The crawler crane will be used for maintenance at the Takoradi Thermal Power Plant in Aboadze Takoradi, Ghana. Earlier this year, Portside transported drilling equipment, heavy lift crawler cranes, excavators and containers on liner RoRo and container vessels via Antwerp and Piraeus ports to Ghana.

The Kobelco crawler crane was transported partly from Breda to Antwerp by eight normal trucks and one heavy lift transporter. When loading the crane onto the trailer, the crane’s own support legs hydraulically lift the crane in order to roll the trailer under. Once transported and arrived in Antwerp, the crawler crane together with its heavy lift, booms and counterweights was loaded on three MAFI trailers and shipped RoRo and break bulk. The Kobelco crawler crane in total weighs around 148 tonnes with a volume of 481 CBM, consisting of a.o. a main body of 40 tonnes and two crawlers of both 14,5 tonnes each.

Due to the maintenance and extension of the power plant and therefore the increasing production of energy, the power plant will power over 120,000 business and homes in the region of Aboadze at its commissioning in 2018. During the work at the power plant, Metka, Octagon and Archimedes select Portside International as their shipping partner for transporting equipment from Europe to the site in Ghana.
