Africallia 2018 in Ougadougou: Portside reinforces its presence in Burkina Faso

Last month, Portside was in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, as part of the Dutch delegation to participate in the Africallia 2018 Forum. The event took place from the 21st to the 23rd of February to connect businesses all over the world to the West African Market. More than 400 Companies, represented by over 500 business professionals from 62 countries were present. A total of 6000 B2B meetings were scheduled during the Forum.

Big potential of the Burkina faso market

Ahead of the event, Bas De Vaal and Betina Dadzie of Portside, went to meet with existing clients and partners as well as to make new contacts outside the Forum. Their objective was to meet with as many truck dealers, vehicle and heavy equipment importers alongside forwarders and clearing agents. The visits turned out to be very productive. The people of Burkina Faso ‘le pays des hommes intègres’ (the land of upright Men) made the visits pleasant by being really helpful and welcoming.

Africallia 2018

On the first day of the Africallia 2018 the official launch was done by the President of the Republic of Burkina Faso himself, his Excellency Roch Marc Christian Kaboré. Next, the President visited different pavilions including the Dutch Pavilion, made of Portside and 11 other Dutch companies. Other dignitaries of the West African Sub-region also visited the Dutch pavilion before it was opened to other business visitors. Scheduled B2B meetings took place in conjunction with ad-hoc meetings and many exchanges were made not only with Burkinabe companies but also companies from all continents.

Overall, Portside achieved its objective of reinforcing its presence in Burkina Faso by participating in the Africallia 2018 Forum. Existing partnerships have been strengthened and new ones have been formed to make working in and with Burkina Faso easier and safer. We would like to thank the Dutch government for this opportunity, The Burkina Chamber of Commerce, the organizers and the participants of the forum and all the companies that entrust their shipping and forwarding to us.
